GICLEE EDITION
PRINTS
Giclee (pronounced "zhee - clay") is a French
word meaning 'a spray of ink'. With the advent of giclee prints,
the art of reproducing fine art has become more precise, using a
high quality digital printer. In the fine art business, Giclee
reproductions have taken over from lithographs, screen prints
and offset prints as the dominant and preferred way for artists,
galleries and publishers world wide to make reproductions and
prints. The growth in the Giclee market has been phenomenal,
while the traditional print methods have stagnated.
The technology behind this revolutionary process is based on the
power of modern computer technology combined with the most
recent advances in printing. It uses extremely fine droplets of
ink which are transferred with incredible precision onto heavy
water-colour paper or artist's canvas. These droplets can be
controlled by the computer, so that the resolution of the
printed image is much finer than conventional printing.
In this website, all Giclee prints are printed in 8 colour
permanent ink producing images at an optical resolution of
1800dpi. Each Giclee print is also produced on 400gsm arches
water colour paper (100% acid free).
Independent testing by the Wilhelm Institute in the United
States have specified that the resulting images will last in
excess of 95 years indoors without any discernable fading.
Giclee Edition Prints are noted with "Giclee" alongside the title.
